I booked an Alcatraz Prison tour on the last day of my trip but forgot to account for my luggage - oops? After a quick luggage storage search on google, I found bags away. Great service and great staff at the storage spot. This is a great idea!!

I was shopping around Powel street with my family and stopped by a cafe for a much needed break. We had our hands full with end of season goodies so when I noticed a BagsAway sticker on the window it caught my attention. I asked our server what that was all about and was surprised to find out we can book storage at the cafe location. I was a little skeptical, but the employee made us very comfortable to give it a try and even helped us book. I am very pleased with the service!

I was traveling through San Francisco with a few of my friends and we randomly decided to check out a Giants game at AT&T Park. We each had heavy backpacks on us, which would have made sitting through a 3 hour baseball game annoying. I used a similar service in New York so I googled it and found a BagsAway location about 10 mind away from the park. My friends haven't heard of the concept before and were quite impressed. Will be using on my future trips!

My flight to a conference in San Francisco was arriving early. While trying to kill a bit of time I checked with the San Fran tourism office if there was any place I could store my luggage, they referred me to BagsAway. After a quick search, I found a nearby coffee shop. This is a very interesting concept, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to drop off their heavy luggage while exploring the city.

Wow, what a life saver! I was leaving the hotel with my wife, and planned on walking through Pier 39 before our flight. We quickly learned the hard way that walking several miles with our luggage wasn’t an easy task. A friend used BagsAway to store their luggage in another city, so we decided to give it a shot. It was pretty easy to find a storage location on the website. Highly recommended!

Places to visit

Below are beautiful places to visit while you are in San Francisco, luggage free of course...

Alcatraz Prison
Alcatraz Prison
Alcatraz Island isn’t for the faint of heart. Developed as a lighthouse, it was used as a military prison in 1828 and then as a federal prison in 1934. Alcatraz has been notorious for jailing some of the country’s most ruthless inmates. It housed 1,576 prisoners including Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelly, and Alvin “Creepy” Karpis. Closed in 1963, today this penitentiary provides tours to the public. TIP: If you are thinking of booking your tour, make sure you do it in advance as reservations are a must! Did you know that.... Al Capone played banjo in the inmate band There were 36 escape attempts, all of which failed one way or another. Though some speculate a trio of prisoners succeeded the task that inspired the 1979 movie “escape from Alcatraz”. It is actually possible to swim to shore - as proven by one prisoner who reached the Golden Gate Bridge just to be collected by swarms of cops. This inspired a triathlon called "Escape from Alcatrac where hundreds go to complete a 1.5 mile swim annualy.
The Embarcadero
The Embarcadero
The Embarcadero is a true gem on the San Francisco waterfront. Located along the City’s eastern bay-side shoreline, it is the perfect place to walk or bike. It also features a wide variety of renovated parks, restaurants and attractions for everyone to enjoy. Did you know... The Embarcadero’s ferry building, along with its clock tower, and was build in 1898. The clock tower was based on the 12th century Spanish Giralda Bell Tower.
Fisherman's Wharf

Live jazz music, bopping cafes, and even sea lions by the shore, Fisherman’s Wharf never gets old. It's in the same vicinity as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and Ghirardelli Square, making it the perfect location for a full day of exploration! What to do? Get on a Golden Gate Bay Cruise or the Bridge to Bridge Cruise Head to the Boudin Bakery for some chowder. They've been serving their original creation ‘San Francisco-style’ sourdough French bread since 1849 made with a centuries old recipe Checkout the Aquarium of the Bay Take the Angel Island Round Trip Ferry Explore unique Museaum like Madame Tussauds Ripley's Believe it or Not
San Fransico Chinatown
San Fransico Chinatown
Enter the dragon and experience a taste of China's culture in San Francisco's famous Chinatown area! It is one of the most popular tourist destination in the city despite being the densest neighborhood. It's not an off the beaten track experience but it's definitely a big and notable part of San Francisco, so brace yourself with excitement and go on a walking tour to explore the far East on the West Coast! Did you know...? It is the 2nd and largest Chinatown in North America Most of the 15,000 Chinese residents that live that speak very little English or none at all so make sure you're equipped with Google translate! It's a popular Hollywood movie filming destination - The Maltese Falcon, Dirty Harry, Flower Drum Song , and the Nash Bridges TV show were all filmed there. Must do! Walk the most famous street filled with the many red lanterns, pagodas, poultry markets and souvenir shops. To find it walk South on Grant Ave. two blocks to Jackson St. Try the infamous egg custard tarts at Golden Gate Bakery located at1029 Grant/Pacific. Brace for a lineup but it's not to be missed! Check out the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory , in Ross Alley just south of Jackson St. Want to try dome fresh produce? The "real Chinatown" area is the rigt place to be! To find it go North on Stockton St. and about two blocks up you will hit the busiest commercial street in China Town, it will not get any more authentic than this as it mostly caters to the local Chinese population. We all know that the tastiest foods are found in hole-in-the-wall type of nooks and New Moon restaurant located at 1247 Stockton perfectly embodies just that. It's one of many places to grab a quick stand-up meal on the go with an exotic and (questionably) appetizing backdrop of whole roast chickens, ducks and pigs hanging in their window
Union Square
Union Square
Union Square is where it’s at! Filled with outdoor shops and an indoor mall, this part of the city is always buzzing. Since the 1800’s Union Square has held large public gatherings, and it hasn’t changed since. The square itself is always filled with lots of people, making it perfect for large get-togethers. If you are traveling to San Francisco during the Christmas season, Union Square is turned into an ice skating rink filled with an abundance of holiday decorations along the store windows.
